Priority:

Healthcare and Rural Crime

KAP's Recommendations

  • An incentive program and strategy that would attract and retain doctors and nurses in rural Manitoba.

  • Increase resources allocated to law enforcement to address rising crime rates.

It is critical that sufficient law enforcement resources are available in rural Manitoba to be able to prevent and respond to rural crime.

  • Farmers are concerned about the rising property crime rate occurring in many parts of rural Manitoba and the long-standing challenges affecting rural health care.

    • All Manitobans deserve to have accessible healthcare and safe communities, regardless of where they live.

    • When medical emergencies occur, minutes can be the difference between life and death. The longer the travel time to medical facilities, the higher the risk of fatality or serious complications can be.

    • Rural communities are at risk for crime due to the distance many residences are from major urban centres, where law enforcement can respond to crime in a timelier manner.
